International Partnership

Wednesday June 3, 2009

Victoria United FC is pleased to announce our new International Partnership with Baguley Athletic FC, a football club located in the south of Manchester, England.

Baguley Athletic FC was formed in 2004 and won two championship titles in 3 years.  One of our aims is to be a success off the pitch as well as on the pitch.  The partnership has been established to build international relations through soccer, which in turn will raise the profile of both clubs in their local communities and establish links with both local residents and businesses.

We at Victoria United look forward to the knowledge and expertise of English Football that this relationship will build on and the opportunity to have Football Association (FA) Coaching.  The chance to help our clubs (and sponsors) build international relations in Manchester, which in turn will help raise the profile of our clubs among football enthusiasts within both communities.

The Directors of Victoria United look forward to the relationship that we have formed with Baguley Athletic FC and believe that this will benefit our club, our sponsors and our players.

Victoria United FC has had an international relationship with its sister city of Morioka, Japan and their amateur club Morioka Zebra FC.  Morioka Zebra FC was formed in 1957, and remains as resolutely amateur today as it was a half-century ago.  The team did win a single league title, back in 1980.  However, that is the only time that the Zebra has ever seen success.  Yet somehow the striped wonders managed to cling resolutely to a spot in the top division for as long as there has been an organized league in Tohoku.

Tragically, the team celebrated its 50th anniversary by plunging into second division for the first time ever.  Though they regained a Division I spot with a Division II (North) title in 2008, how much longer the team can continue to play at the top amateur level in today's increasingly competitive environment is anyone's guess.

Victoria United FC is very excited about the two International Football Partnerships - Baguley Athletic FC and Morioka Zebra FC.
